Educational Wagon Adventure For Students

Students step aboard an authentic mule-drawn covered wagon and journey into a protected Sonoran Desert wilderness preserve on a hands-on educational adventure. Guided by experienced naturalists, students learn about Westward Expansion, mules, the Colorado Sonoran Desert, and the surrounding California State Park.

The wagons stop at Hidden Palms Oasis, where students take part in a guided nature walk exploring the natural history of this unique desert environment. Lessons include desert plants and animals, local wildlife, Native American inhabitants, and the geology of the San Andreas Fault—all taught in an engaging, age-appropriate way.

Gold Panning, Minerals and Gems - 45 minutes

Students step back in time to learn about the California Gold Rush through hands-on, interactive activities. Young miners participate in simulated gold extraction by panning for gold and sifting for minerals and gems in water troughs filled with sand, stones, and real treasures.

Guided by our “miners,” students explore table displays showcasing local Southern California rocks, minerals, and gems, learning how these natural resources shaped early settlement and exploration. Best of all, students get to keep the gold and gems they discover, making this an unforgettable and engaging learning experience.

Musical Review, Cowboy Life & Barn Dance

Students gather in our Desert Barn for an interactive musical experience led by local recording artist John Penn. Through original songs about California history, the Coachella Valley, desert plants, and local folklore, students learn while actively participating with catchy call-and-response lyrics they sing together.

The fun continues with an easy-to-learn barn dance, designed for all ages and energy levels. Students also get a taste of authentic Western culture—learning the basics of yodeling and roping, just like the cowboys and cowgirls of the Desert West.

John is joined by a professional Western entertainer, who brings Wild West history to life through engaging demonstrations such as trick roping and bull whipping, offering students a memorable and immersive look into cowboy and cowgirl traditions.

MUSICAL REVIEW, COWBOY LIFE & BARN DANCE

Students gather in our Desert Barn for an interactive musical experience led by local recording artists and western entertainers.  Through original and classic songs about California history, the Coachella Valley, desert plants, and local folklore, students learn and participate with catchy call-and-response lyrics they sing together & instrument playing and . They also learn the basics of yodeling and roping, just like the cowboys and cowgirls of the Desert West.
Our professional Western entertainer brings Wild West history and cowboy ranch culture to life through engaging demonstrations such as trick roping and bull whipping.  Students  get to participate in roping lessons.  The fun continues with an easy-to-learn barn dance, designed for all grade levels.
